We have received new accessories! Green Laces is constantly looking for new, high-quality designs and this time Frankie's has found us. Swedish-made dog collars and leashes in beautiful, Portuguese cork. We had a chat with Josefine and Joakim from the Skåne-based dog brand.
What is Frankie's and why does Frankie's exist?
Frankie's is a small company that makes vegan products for dogs. Today we have a range of vegan, organic dog treats and now also dog leashes and collars in Portuguese cork. The short version is that Frankie's exists to help make the dog market more ethically sustainable and because we have a lot of fun working on this.
What are important features to consider when choosing a collar and leash? What components are you particularly proud of in your products?
For us, it is important that a dog collar and leash feel sustainably produced and durable. And it is luxury if they are also beautiful. What we like most about our collars and leashes is that they are made of cork. Cork is one of the world's best natural materials that is biodegradable and at the same time incredibly durable, even NASA uses it in its spaceships. Cork is bark from trees that are peeled off every nine years without damaging the tree, which in turn can be 200 years old in cork production. After the cork oaks have been harvested for their bark, they also absorb 3 to 5 times as much CO2 as the trees that have not yet been harvested. The use of cork also ensures the preservation of the ancient cork oak forests where the biodiversity is among the highest in the world. Then aesthetically, we are very pleased with the overall design of the collection, it feels like we achieved a complicated simplicity, which is a favorite.
Where do you find your inspiration and creativity? Do you do anything else outside of Frankie's?
We find inspiration and creativity in peace. When we are not doing and planning so much, Frankie's just flows and then the creativity is there. It is one of the reasons why we live in the country and spend a lot of time under trees and in our potato field. In our shared studio in Malmö, Joakim has a recording studio where he works as a music producer and Josefine, who is a trained silversmith with a focus on jewelry art, works mostly with Frankie's today. With us every day are also our three companions Sickan, Hilda and Frankie who are a great inspiration and part of Frankie's.
Many people probably understand that Green Laces likes Frankie's, but what made you choose Green Laces as a retailer?
For us it is important to try to compromise minimally with what we do, to fuss a little to make our products as good as possible for animals and the earth is wonderful. That is why it feels very fun to collaborate with Green Laces, who since 2011 have uncompromisingly done their thing and paved the way for kinder and better fashion. Green Laces has been selected as the first retailer and has taken in the entire collection in all sizes . The vegan cork leather is incredibly sturdy and durable, water-repellent and ages beautifully. The leashes and collars are hand-sewn in Norrland and the riveting is done in Skåne. We have full control over the entire production chain and can proudly say that Frankie's is an ethical premium product for one of man's best friends.
